哥伦比亚大学新闻研究院院长尼古拉斯.莱曼在《纽约客》里将“公民记者”解释为:从事类似新闻报道但从未被新闻机构雇用的人。①更通俗地讲,就是在新闻事件的报道和传播中发挥记者作用,却不是专业新闻传播者的普通民众。在当今时代,公民记者与传统媒体记者是互为补充、互相促进的,甚至可以为传统媒体设置某些议程。公民记者的背后体现的是“参与式新闻”的理念,换句话说,就是公众在收集、报道、分析和传播新闻和信息过程中能发挥主动作用;公民记者的出现带来了新的传播模式,有助于受众清晰地认清事实真相。
