为了阅读,还为了什么?——关于当代中国书籍设计的谈话

阅读,是一种触及审美感受的文化活动;书籍,当它通过一定形式来展现著作者希望传达的意义之时,便成为一种综合运用文化符号和意义的艺术形式。由此看来,书籍设计扮演了一个重要角色。可能是在二十年前,中国的读者和设计师在谈到“书籍设计”的时候多用“书籍装帧”的概念,两个概念的差异和实质性内容的区别,说明了三十年来中国设计的变化。到了今天,在信息爆炸的时代里,任何一个人或多或少都有成为读者的身份.对于书籍的展现形式大多有过味道不同的感受,而今天的阅读方式又发生了巨大变化,人们可以从多种渠道获得自己想要的信息,也可以在广义书籍的意义上体验到丰富的信息展现方式。然而无论怎么发展,由人类文化在历史中创造的以字里行间、篇章布局、图籍典册为形式特征的书籍,至少到今天仍然是我们获得文化信息的重要渠道,通过书本形式来实现阅读的经历也仍然是一种莫大的文化享受——个人以为这种享受绝非网络化阅读可比。那么,在设计师们已经接受并习惯使用书籍设计这一概念和行为的情况下,中国今天的书籍设计是一种什么状况?在这个较为含混的问题里面,涉及到书籍设计师对这一行业的理解过程,涉及到中国的书籍设计所取得的成就以及仍然存在的问题,涉及到中国社会对它的认识和接纳程度,也涉及到层次千差万别的读者在不同的阅读中所获得的具体而微的感受……相信还涉及许多有意思的问题。作为读者,人们感兴趣的是阅读感受,而作为观察者,我们更感兴趣的是设计师应如何考虑书籍设计的方方面面。本期我们从作为读者的阅读感受谈起,约请相关的理论家和设计师就书籍设计这件事来聊聊。 Reading is a cultural activity that touches on the aesthetic feelings. So what is the status of book design in China today when designers have accepted and become accustomed to using the concept and behavior of book design? It involves the level of Chinese society’s recognition and acceptance of it. It also involves the specific and subtle feelings that different readers at different levels have in different readings ... I believe it also involves many interesting issues. As readers, people are interested in reading feelings, and as an observer, we are more interested in how designers should consider all aspects of book design. In this installment, we talk about reading as a reader. We invite the relevant theorists and designers to talk about the book design.
