Rare earth elements in the suspended sediments of the main rivers of China and South Korea around the Yellow Sea are different in composition. Rare earth elements of Korean rivers are stronger than that of the Yangtze River, Yellow River and Yalu River in China, showing the relative enrichment of light rare earths in the normalized pattern of the upper continental shelf. The difference of the composition of endogenous rocks in different levels of watersheds is the main factor that forms the difference of REE composition in these rivers. REE (La / Yb) _ (UCC) and (Gd / Yb) _ (UCC), as well as the stable La / Sc and Th / Sc element ratios are reliable indicators for identifying the sediments of China and South Korea entering the Yellow Sea , Which can be used for the research of sedimentary provenance and palaeo-environmental analysis in China’s marginal seas.
