The United States and Taiwan alliance is a typical asymmetric alliance with the usual inherent instability of the general asymmetric alliance. The source of such instability is the difference between the decision makers in the United States and Taiwan in judging the situation and the state of psychological cognition in making decisions . Using the two modes of “Cognitive Match Effect” and “Cognitive Disorder Process” in cognitive psychology to examine the relationship between the United States and Taiwan in the Kennedy and Johnson periods, we can see the unique cognitive structure of the United States and Taiwan. To a certain extent, the interpretation of cognitive structure shows the uniqueness of the relations between the United States and Taiwan during the Kennedy and Johnson periods.
