“新生活运动”以促成民族精神为目的。民族精神是孙中山提倡的。蒋介石提倡民族精神的目的是消除“内忧外患”。但他把民族精神与法西斯主义联系起来,这是错误的。胡适与国民党的关系从对立到既有分歧又有合作的过程,使得他对“新生活运动”的评论及其温和。宋庆龄对“新生活运动”的批评体现了唯物史观的影响。以上这些思想上的互动,构成了近代中国思想发展的内在逻辑。
