发动机工作时，活塞在缸内作高速往复运动，当其与气缸盖、气门产生碰撞时，缸内便会出现异常响声；如果活塞与缸壁间隙过大，或由某些原因出现拉缸故障，这些也会发出异响。此时，若驾驶员能及时发现并正确加以判断和正确处理，便可避免打坏活塞、顶弯连杆、折断曲轴等重大故障的发生。
