In the early 1990s, conservatives and progressive Americans launched a heated debate over the new way of living in the United States and the cultural values behind it. The media called it a “cultural war.” On the surface, the controversy revolves around the numerous social issues and cultural values that plagued the United States at the time, but in essence it is a battle over how to determine the identity and value system of the American nation and determine who controls the discourse Right, who plans the political contest for the future direction of the United States. Conservatives adhere to the Judaism - Christian belief system, Anglo-Saxon Protestantism as the core of the moral system, based on the Western classical civilization as the foundation of the cultural system. In the contemporary United States where religions, nations and cultures are increasingly pluralized, the progressiveists believe that the conservative viewpoints are not only incompatible with the times but also become backward powers that hinder the progress of American society.
