本文介绍马来西亚英语政策,考察马来西亚英语教育传播历史与现状,以及从语言政策中表现出的身份认同。马来西亚的经验表明,在多元语言、多元文化背景下,语言地位取决于政治、经济、文化、宗教等各方面的需求,是各方面妥协的产物。从学校媒介语的反复转变表现出的语言对马来政府在推进国家地位时的影响,使我们有兴趣去了解应该怎样去处理一种强势外来语和本国语的关系。
This article describes the Malaysian English policy, examining the history and current status of Malaysian education in English communication, as well as the identity that has emerged from the language policy. Malaysia’s experience shows that in a multi-lingual and multicultural context, language status depends on political, economic, cultural and religious needs and is a compromise between all parties. The impact of the language demonstrated by the repeated changes in the school’s media language on the Malay government’s promotion of statehood gives us an interest in understanding how to deal with the relationship between a strong foreign language and native language.
