I. Preface Joseph Heller (1923-1999) is a well-known American writer as well as a representative of the “black humor” school. Born in a Jewish immigrant family, he was influenced by a good environment from an early age. During World War II, Heller was enlisted and sent to Corsica, the bases of the 12th Battalion of the U.S. Air Force in the Mediterranean Theater, to become an Air Force bombardier and later promoted to lieutenant. Heller interested in literary creation, graduated with honors in New York University in 1948.
