In 1900, a fortuitous incident opened the mysterious veil to the Cangjing Caves at Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes. The ancient silk trail, which had been quiet for nearly a thousand years, became the focus of attention of the world. Dunhuang Studies gradually became a “significant school” internationally. From a fine arts point of view, the discovery of Dunhuang has effectively changed the narrow traditional Chinese history of art history centered on literati paintings of scholars and provided rich nutrition for contemporary art. Recently, two academic activities revolved around Dunhuang and this issue covers the general situation of the event.
