Stephen Klein, a well-known reporter and novelist after the American Civil War, insisted on writing articles for the newspaper after the success of the “Red Courage Medal.” Klein’s entire writing career is immersed in the newspaper culture is closely related to the text. Most of Kline’s critics think his news writing is subordinate to fictional creation. This article thinks that Klein fits well with the news tradition of American literature formed by Mark Twain and Michael Hull. The experience of his correspondents has profoundly influenced Kline Literary creation. Therefore, this article re-interprets Klein’s masterpiece of news works, digging deeply into its two major artistic features, namely, irony art and impressionist hand
