Tianjin Folk Museum was established in January 1985 and officially opened to the public on the New Year’s Day in 1986. It is the first professional folk museum in the country to study and display the folk culture of Tianjin and to collect and protect folk relics with the local characteristics of Tianjin. Due to its location on the site of the former Tiantan Temple in Tianjin, one of the world’s three largest temples (The Temple of Heaven), it is home to the renowned Mazu Culture Research Center in northern China. In particular, due to its special historical position, it has become an important base for domestic and foreign experts and scholars to explore and study China’s water transport culture, maritime culture, business culture, folk religious beliefs and urban development history as well as tours of people from all walks of life both at home and abroad Sheng.
