The Story of an Hour,written by Kate Chopin,depicts a housewife who feels liberated after hearing of her husband’s death.Unlike existing writings centering on the protagonist,this paper makes an attempt to analyze minor characters that show a contrast with the protagonist,which reflects Chopin’s concern on the predicament of women’s longing for freedom in the late 19 th century of America.
