From April 1945 to February 1945, the Japanese army launched a large-scale offensive against the Kuomintang frontal battlefield and the Kuomintang army lost its ground and suffered the second major retreat. This offensive by the Japanese army undoubtedly occupies an important position in the history of the Anti-Japanese War. However, in the past, the division of stages in the war against Japan did not give an appropriate appraisal of the Japanese attack. The traditional three-stage theory (that is, the anti-Japanese war is divided into three stages of strategic defense, strategic stalemate and strategic counter-offensive) ignores the strategic significance of the offensive by the Japanese and sets the anti-Japanese war in this period as part of China’s strategic offensive phase . In recent years, some people have raised objections that there is no strategic counter-offensive stage in the War of Resistance Against Japan (Cheng Nai-sheng, “There is no Strategic Counter-offensive in the War of Resistance Against Japan”, see “Anhui History”, Issue 4, 1986) Strategic defense and strategic stalemate in two stages. Although this division correctly pointed out that there was no so-called strategic counter-offensive on the Chinese side during the Japanese offensive, it did not see that the Japanese attack had already broken the strategic stalemate and that the current Anti-Japanese War included in the phase of strategic stalemate.
