永安镇遗址位于长江左岸与梅溪河右岸交汇处的台地上,即重庆市奉节县老县城。东距瞿塘峡口约5公里,与白帝城遗址相距约4公里。该遗址于1992年三峡库区文物调查时发现并确认。2000年以来,重庆市文化遗产研究院、吉林大学、湖北宜昌博物馆、奉节白帝城文管所等单位先后6次对该遗址进行了考古发掘,发现并清理战国至唐代墓葬120余座,同时还揭示出大量宋、元、明、清的街道和房屋遗迹。永安镇遗址战国时期墓葬总体呈现出巴、楚、越、秦多元结构的文化面貌,其中出土兵器以巴文化因素为主要特色,祭祀礼器又以楚文化因素为重,同时,
