In order to significantly improve the performance of the transitional engine (AJ10-138) that has been in use since 1964, an Interim Injection Improvement Program (ITIP) was carried out which culminated in the development of the AJ10-138A engine success. The performance improvement was obtained by redesigning the injector. The dynamic stability of combustion is achieved with a double tuned cavity of 15 cavity slots. The use of aerojet General Motors developed a thin filter screen to eliminate the injector outer ring fuel nozzle may occur impurities clogging. The use of advanced technology with a thin filter screen improves the design without changing the operating characteristics of the engine. This article will introduce the ITIP design overview and discuss the thin layer filter screen.
