Founded in 1968, the US Department of Defense Reliability Analysis Center (RAC) is one of the US Department of Defense reliability information analysis centers. Its role is to collect and analyze data on the reliability of devices and systems and to manipulate the raw data into usable information in order to enable the Department of Defense and industry to make effective use of it. As a highly professional organization, RAC also actively supports reliability and related engineering programs, provides technical advice, and conducts specialized research. RAC’s first special study was the establishment of a reliability model for the Air Force’s airborne electronics equipment in 1978. In the same year, RAC analyzed the reliability of smoke detectors for UL laboratories and funded them by the Automotive Engineering Society Begin to establish the reliability model of automotive electronic equipment. Other funding units for the research project currently include the Third Armies, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and a number of industrial divisions, and RAC also conducted a reliability analysis of naval electronics systems used in Desert Storm.
