A priori information about the source parameters is introduced in the expansion of probabilistic seismic hazard analysis. In particular, the rupture form is considered together with the theoretical correction factor for the attenuation law. The validity of this correction was assessed by comparison with the measured data, the law of attenuation with or without modification and the results of attenuation law including the parameters of mode of rupture. Probabilistic characteristics of seismic hazard analysis are preserved and a two-dimensional probability density function describing the most probable focal mechanism associated with each source zone is introduced into the classic hazard analysis formula. This new formulation can also be used in the framework of discrete analysis. Therefore, earthquakes designed according to discrete analysis are characterized by focal mechanisms. This article presents examples of use in the southern Appennines in Italy. Compared with the normal faulting seismic activity in this area, the results of the analysis emphasize the significance of the strike-slip event in seismic hazard analysis.
