Objective To understand the community residents’ cognition and existing problems of TB / HIV dual infection and to provide baseline information and scientific basis for further intervention and further study. Methods From June to July 2010, 669 residents over the age of 15 in Shenzhen city were investigated by multi-stage random sampling, and the research-related information was obtained by self-completed questionnaire. Results 89.4% (598/669) of them heard of AIDS and heard of tuberculosis. Only 38.7% of the respondents had heard about TB / HIV and 13.0% of respondents had knowledge of TB / HIV. A significant proportion of residents do not understand the related knowledge of the interaction between HIV and TB and lack of awareness of AIDS and tuberculosis screening. Only 69.2% of the respondents considered it possible to prevent TB / HIV double infection. In addition to the relatively poor understanding of some non-transmission of HIV / AIDS, AIDS and TB transmission were well known. Conclusions At present, community residents lack knowledge of TB / HIV dual infection and health education of TB / HIV dual infection of community residents is imperative.
