Institutional changes and a reduction in defense budgets have left the Pentagon’s plans for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of land, sea and air forces at the crossroads. The 1.9 billion U.S. dollars spent on short, medium and medium range UAVs for the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps from fiscal years FY19 to FY99.99 have yet to be implemented. These systems will mainly use the television and infrared cameras to monitor enemy forces in real time. In May 1993, the Department of Defense released its UAV master plan, which clearly lacks the specific number of UAVs to be purchased by the military and reflects the uncertain future of the UAV system. At a meeting on May 20, the Department of Defense jointly requested the JROC to request the UAV Joint Program Office (JPO) to buy up to 100 short-range, 52 short-range and 145 medium-range UAVs. Scheduled Army will receive 25 short-range UAV, Marine Corps
