伊沃·安德里奇(1892—1975)是南斯拉夫当代最杰出的作家和诗人,二次大战后曾长期担任南斯拉夫联邦作家协会主席。他的作品大多取材于历史,反映处于民族矛盾重压之下的波斯尼亚各族人民的困境和他们的内心世界。这些作品显示出作者出众的才华。他的“德里纳河上的桥”一书曾荣获国家奖金。1961年他又荣获诺贝尔文学奖。瑞典文学院在说明授奖的理由时指出:
Ivo Andrić (1892-1975), the most prominent contemporary writer and poet in Yugoslavia, was the chairman of the Federation of Federal Writers of Yugoslavia after the Second World War. Most of his works are based on history, reflecting the predicament of the people of all ethnic groups in Bosnia and their inner world under the weight of ethnic conflicts. These works show the author’s outstanding talent. His “Bridge over the Drina” book won a national bonus. In 1961 he won the Nobel Prize for Literature. In explaining the reasons for awarding, the Swedish School of Arts pointed out:
