稻种资源是劳动人民长期生产创造的农业遗产,是选育新品种和进行品种研究的物质基础。我省稻种资源丰富,类型繁多,现已保存国内外稻种万份以上。广东气候高温、多湿,且持续时间长。稻种在这气候条件下挂藏,只能保持发芽力一年。因此,历年来保存稻种只靠连年种植,既浪费人力、物力,更影响种子保存质量。长期以来,我们力图寻找简易有效的贮藏方法,但没有获得成功。1975年开始尝试把稻种用铁皮箱贮放在冷冻库中(温度为-18℃,相对湿度70%),并分年测定发芽力。早稻品种贮藏三年仍有个别不发芽。从河北省廊坊地区农科所报导贮藏稻种的结果得到启发,为了解决广东稻种资源贮藏问题,1976年开始,以干燥器密闭贮藏稻种,同时与铁皮箱密封作比较。结果干燥器常温贮藏四年,早造稻种发芽率在80~90%以上的占89.28%,全部品种发芽率均在50%以上。试验结果如下:
