挽联,它与祭词、悼文一样,自古以来就是用以追述死者生前的德行事迹,寄托作者的哀思的。读之,动人肺腑,令人恻怆。谐趣挽联则不同,或讽刺,或解嘲,寓庄于谐,使人发噱。清穆宗(同治)好作狭邪游,染梅毒,十九岁便夭亡,宫中饰言是出天花。时人戏撰挽联云:
