李昌平1963年4月生于湖北省,先后就读于湖北省机电学校、华中农业大学农经学院、中南财经大学,获经济学硕士学位。1983年1月—2000年9月,先后四次担任乡镇党委书记、县委农村工作部副部长等职。2000年3月,致信朱镕基总理,反映当地面临的突出问题,引起中央对“三农”问题的关注。同年10月,他首次公开在国内媒体呼吁:给农民以同等国民待遇;12月当选《南方周末》2000年年度人物。2000年9月辞去乡党委书记职务,后任《中国改革》、《改革内参》记者、编辑。现为河北大学中国乡村建设研究中心研究员、慈善组织香港乐施会北京分部项目负责人。2002年1月,李昌平专著《我向总理说实话》一书,由光明日报社出版,受到国内媒体和公众的广泛关注。
Li Changping Born in Hubei Province in April 1963, he studied at the Hubei Electrical and Mechanical School, Huazhong Agricultural University College of Agriculture and Economics, Zhongnan University of Economics, received a master’s degree in economics. January 1983 - September 2000, has served four times as township party secretary, county deputy director of the rural work. In March 2000, Zhu Rongji sent a letter to Premier Zhu Rongji, reflecting the prominent problems that the locality is facing and arousing the concern of the Central Government over the “three rural issues.” In October of the same year, he made his first public announcement in the domestic media that he should give equal treatment to peasants and was elected as the “Southern Weekend” figure of the year 2000 in December. He resigned as secretary of the township party committee in September 2000 and later served as reporter and editor of “China’s Reform” and “Reforming the Internal Control System.” He is currently a researcher at China Rural Construction Research Center of Hebei University and a project leader of Oxfam Hong Kong Beijing Branch. In January 2002, Li Changping’s book “I Tell the Prime Minister,” published by Guangming Daily, has drawn wide attention from the domestic media and the public.
