On October 16, Midea Group made an announcement that Huang Jian had proposed to give up the posts as the director and president of Midea. He will no longer take any positions in Midea. Meanwhile, Fang Hongbo was chosen as the new president, which has been approved by the board of directors.
It is known that Huang Jian began to work for Midea in 1992. As one of the young and vigorous executives of Midea, Huang Jian, as well as his successor Fang Hongbo, is the left-hand man of He Hengjian, board chairman of Midea. Huang was in charge of the electric appliance while Fang was in charge of the refrigerating business. Last August, He Hengjian announced his retirement and the business integration of Midea started from then on.
“The refrigerating business and the electric appliances are integrated, rendering Huang Jian powerless despite his presidency. It is only a matter of time for him to leave,” says a source. When He Hengjian retired in 2012, he was succeeded by Fang Hongbo, who earned a higher rank than Huang Jian.
It is believed that the incompatibility with Fang Hongbo’s business strategies is the main reason for Huang Jian to leave. Fang Hongbo’s strategies gave priority to the public offering of the entire group.
In the past year, Midea went through frequent executive changes. This June, an internal email revealed that Wang Xinliang took the place of Lu Jianfeng as the vice president of Midea’s household air conditioners.
Midea claims that Huang Jian’s resignation is a result of the staff flow in the company and the internal management of the company is as normal as ever.
