Australia is a country with quite developed culture. Only from the book publishing business point of view, 1.4 million population, there are more than 150 publishers, more than 2,000 kinds of new books published each year. Last spring, our publishing work delegation visited Australia. On the way from Canberra, the capital, to Sydney, we visited Kerens Publishing Company. This is a British branch. Mr. Verdi, the manager, told us that his company wholesaled books to 6,000 retail bookstores throughout the country, operating 30 million Australian dollars a year (about 1 Australian dollar is about 2 yuan); its books are distributed in ten One part. According to him, readers throughout Australia book up to 420 million Australian dollars a year. Calculated at a national average of 30 Australian dollars per capita. The United States, on the average, purchases $ 30 each and the Australian dollar is higher than the U.S. dollar. As a result, Australian readers purchase more books than the United States.
