According to the U.S. Defense Press’s August 30, 2015 report, the GCC’s plan to establish an integrated regional missile defense system, motivated by the United States, has made little progress in the past two years. The GCC countries do not have a unified missile defense system, some adopt the “Patriot” system, and some adopt the Russian-made “armor-S1” antiaircraft gun system. The United Arab Emirates purchased two sets of final THAADs for $ 1.96 billion in December 2011 and Saudi Arabia and Qatar, which are also interested in the system. In addition, Saudi Arabia has recently signed a $ 5.4 billion agreement to upgrade its air defense network from the “Patriot-2” system to the “Patriot-3” system.
