教育改革的根本目的在于提高国民素质,而一个人“母语水平的高低,是影响一个人素质的极为重要的因素,也可以说是一个人德才的基础的基础”。这是我国著名机械工程专家、中科院院士、华中理工大学教授杨叔子在致《语文报》一封信中阐述的真知灼见。他在信中还号召“中国语文应该是一个中国青年、一个中国学生做人做事的基础”。一个理工教授如此诚恳地谈语文不能不有所震撼。确实,无论年龄大小,也不论从事何种职业,语文于人人有益,人们的学识才华,也往往体现于语言文学。语言文学的素质是一个人素质的重要组成部分。语文学科的这一性质及其社会功能决定着语文教学非素质教育不能完成其历史使命。
The fundamental purpose of the education reform is to improve the quality of the people. The level of one’s “native language” is an extremely important factor affecting a person’s quality, and it can also be regarded as the foundation of a person’s ability. This is the insight that Yang Shuzi, a renowned expert in mechanical engineering, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, elaborated in a letter to the “Chinese Newspaper”. In his letter, he also called for “Chinese language should be the foundation of a Chinese youth and a Chinese student doing things.” A professor of science and technology can not be shocked when talking about language so sincerely. Indeed, irrespective of their age and regardless of their careers, language is beneficial to everyone, and people’s academic talent is often reflected in language and literature. The quality of language and literature is an important part of a person’s quality. This nature of Chinese language and its social function determine that non-quality education in Chinese teaching cannot fulfill its historical mission.
