The phenomenon of P-type cilia highly associated with acute non-obstructive pyelonephritis in 97% of children suggests that P-cilia is a determinant of urinary tract infection. It not only reduces the normal clearance of secretions and urine, but also causes bacteria to multiply in the urethra. Correlation of pyelonephritis and renal scarring with bladder-ureter reflux has been established. Highly toxic bacteria can cause bladder-ureter junction injury and delay in recovery, resulting in primary urinary tract infection.
