To investigate the effect of carbon disulfide (CS2) on the adrenocortical function and to explore the feasibility and value of CS2 as a biological monitoring indicator of CS2 exposure, urine urinary corticosteroid levels were measured by HPLC and a group of long- Urinary corticosteroids and metabolites changes. The results showed that workers exposed to excessive concentrations of CS2 blood, urinary cortical hormones and metabolites decreased. Multivariate stepwise regression analysis showed that changes in adrenal cortex hormones and air concentration of CS2 are closely related. Urinary cortical hormones (free cortisol, cortisone and aldosterone), as well as the metabolite 17-keto-steroid, are expected to be noninvasive biological surveillance indicators that reflect adrenocortical functional status.
