After many tectonic movements of the earth’s crust, all kinds of surface ruptures are superposed to form a complex rupture pattern. The occurrence of most shallow-source tectonic earthquakes is related to these fractures. The major surface faults in the Three Gorges area in western Hubei are constructed as a series of north-northwest strike faults, which are the main active tectonics controlling the formation of tectonic units in the area and Cretaceous since the Cretaceous. . The research on the current activity of this set of major tectonic lines and their accompanying small fractures is of practical significance to understand the stress field, the crustal activity and the present seismic activity. Hereunder, by analyzing the linear rupture interpretation and the field survey in this area, the tectonic fracture system in this area and its possible connection with earthquakes are tentatively analyzed and discussed.
