The performance of primary and secondary school students was unsatisfactory, and the U.S. school authorities had headaches. The new trick was to manage the school as a company, set up “performance indicators” for teachers and students, measure performance, and set up a chief executive who supervised order. This is the latest trend in the commercialization of education.
