1930年代前后台湾透过日本与中国大陆所接收的“文学大众化”思潮,其共同的源头都是苏联的无产阶级文学理论。面对日益被日本同化的台湾社会,民族文化倾覆的危机使台湾作家在思考“文学大众化”课题、与文学的阶级性问题时,不得不思考民族文化传承的困境,而使得台湾的“文学大众化”论述在阶级性的考虑外,带有民族意识的特殊性。本文首先探讨当时台湾关于“文学大众化”的论述所呈现的阶级性与民族性的“碰壁”困境,反思苏共阶级性的文学论述或党的文学的政策,旅行到殖民地台湾时遭遇到历史难题。其次藉由当日台湾作家的创作实践,探讨“文学大众化”意识在台湾社会、文化的所发挥的理论效用。
