On the morning of February 28, 3:37 am, Japan used the H2A rockets to successfully launch the main satellite of the Global Precipitation Observation Project at Tanegashima Aerospace Center in Kagoshima. According to Japan’s Sankei Shimbun, the satellite was jointly developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and NASA and launched with the rocket. The satellite also includes seven small satellites jointly developed by various Japanese universities. The satellite will be officially put into operation in September 2014 and will be operated in conjunction with other satellites in other countries to observe global precipitation every 3 hours, covering more than 90% of the global area.
