Nearly all of the analyzers being promoted for trace mercury analysis by 1631E are based on continuous flow analysis, despite the fact that the original method apparatus utilizes direct purge of the mercury from the sample. An automated, direct purge mercury analyzer designed specifically for trace mercury analysis by U.S. EPA Method 1631E is discussed in this article.
