Objective To investigate the changes of T lymphocyte subsets in peripheral blood of hepatitis E patients and its immunological significance. Methods Flow cytometry was used to detect T lymphocyte subsets in 136 patients with acute hepatitis E and 13 normal controls. Results There was no significant difference in T lymphocyte subsets between hepatitis E patients and normal controls (P> 0.05). The total number of CD3 + cells and the absolute numbers of CD4 + and CD8 + cells in hepatitis E virus infection group were higher than those in hepatitis B virus infection group (all P <0.05). Conclusion There is a change in host cell immune function in hepatitis E virus infected patients, which may be related to acute hepatitis E hepatocyte injury and virus clearance.
