Foreword Mining industry plays an important role in the economy of Thailand. In 1975, the total value of mineral products was 3.1 billion baht, compared with 11.9 billion baht in 1981. The value of mineral products exported in 1981 exceeded 11.856 billion baht in foreign exchange earnings. Tin, as the main product, accounts for 81% and 81.4% of the total output value and total export value in the production and export of various mineral products. The value of mineral exports in 1982 is expected to be less than in 1981, largely as a result of falling market prices due to the world economic downturn. Once the world economy recovers, it can be predicted that mineral products will continue to be an important factor in the overall national economy as in the past. Despite such gratifying leaps in the development of the mining industry, mining output in the past used to be only 1.2% of GNP
