In the history of modern Chinese literature, Xu Zhimo is a complex and special poet. He inherited the “spirituality” theory of ancient China and was influenced by the ideas of Nietzsche’s “Superman” philosophy and Tagore’s “pantheism”, forming the keynote of his democratic individualism. His poems are soft and beautiful, with prosodic harmony and diverse forms. They melt the Chinese and Western cultures in a furnace and absorb the essence of folk songs and proverbs to form a unique artistic style.
