蔡和森与彭述之都出生于1895年的湖南,接受过五四新文化运动的洗礼,思想积极进步。两人一个赴法学习,一个赴苏留学,回国后共同从事宣传工作,在革命很多时期有过合作关系。大革命时期他们齐心协力,合作推动国民革命,是国民革命重要的宣传者和领导者;因思想主张的不同,在中共五大上他们各执一词,针锋相对;在北方,他们一个是北方局书记,一个是顺直省委书记,却也因为重重矛盾与分歧,互相对立,最终因为顺直问题均受到批评;离开北方后, Cai Hesen and Peng Shuzhi were both born in Hunan in 1895 and embraced the May Fourth New Culture Movement and made positive progress in their thinking.
