Objective To investigate the effect of progressive muscle relaxation training on improving sleep quality and negative emotion in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma radiotherapy. Methods Sixty-two patients undergoing radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma were divided into experimental group and control group according to random number table method, with 31 cases in each group. The control group was given routine nursing, and the experimental group was given gradual muscle relaxation training on the basis of the control group. The Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index Scale (PSQI) were used to evaluate the anxiety and sleep quality improvement before and after intervention. Results The total score of SAS and PSQI in experimental group decreased significantly (P <0.05 or P <0.01) after intervention, and SAS and PSQI scores in experimental group were significantly lower than those in control group (P <0.01). Conclusion Progressive muscle relaxation training can effectively relieve the anxiety and improve the quality of sleep in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, which is worthy of clinical promotion.
