1933年生于上海市,1957年和1965年在英国伦敦大学先后获得理科学士和理学博士的学位,是一位杰出的美籍华人光通信专家。1957年～1969年在英国国际电报电话公司(ITT)工作,1970年～1974年在香港大学担任电子工程系主任和教授职务。1974年又回到ITT公司工作,从事电-光产品开发研究,是该公司的首席科学家,后来提升为该公司工程部理事。1983年,被任命为ITT公司的高级科学家。现移居美国,在纽约ITT公司总部工作。
Born in Shanghai in 1933, he received a bachelor of science degree and a doctor of science degree from the University of London in the United Kingdom in 1957 and 1965. He is an outstanding Chinese American optical communication expert. From 1957 to 1969, he worked at ITT and from 1970 to 1974 at the University of Hong Kong as Director and Professor of Electronic Engineering. In 1974, he returned to ITT to work on electro-optical product development and research. He was the chief scientist of the company and later promoted to director of the company’s engineering department. In 1983, he was appointed senior scientist at ITT Corporation. Now immigrate to the United States and work at ITT headquarters in New York.
