The honeycomb sandwich structure is a three-layer or multi-layer structure that is firmly bonded to one another with multiple layers. In engineering design, it usually consists of two layers of high-density load-bearing end faces, with two end faces separated by a thicker intermediate layer or a center sandwich made of a low-density material. When this structure is subjected to bending loads, the sandwich acts like an I-beam: the green equivalent of an I-beam is a thin, high-density surface that is subjected to longitudinal pressure, and the thick center sandwich is used as an I-beam. The plate girder withstands shear forces. However, the honeycomb sandwich structure outperforms the equivalent I-beam, and the interlayer subjected to the shear force in the honeycomb sandwich structure expands to the entire width of the end face. Therefore, the entire end face is reinforced.
