The recent commercialization of wideband linear phase op amps allows the design of a new type of high bit rate transimpedance optical receiver. This design makes it easy to optimize the receiver’s frequency response for lowest noise and lowest ISI [ISI]. The practical sensitivities of -49.3 dBm (70% quantum efficiency) are typically achievable at 140 Mbit / s and 1.52 μm using a combination of packaged components and 30 μm diameter GeP ~ + nAPD.
