Since its commencement of production, the Red Dog Lead-Zinc Mine has been trying its best to increase the processing capacity of the concentrator for many years. Although some flotation equipment have been added in the last 10 years, the beneficiation targets of the Honggou concentrator are limited due to the lack of flotation capacity. Two batches of reduced capacity trials conducted in 1997 and the replacement of villages by semi-autogenous mills have consistently demonstrated that it is possible to significantly increase the recovery and grade of zinc concentrates by further expanding flotation capacity. Later, while simplifying the original flotation circuit, a new flotation circuit (including the provision of three-stage dilution and provision of one reprocessing section) with expanded flotation capacity was designed in 1999. The purpose of the second treatment is to solve the problem of more complex entangled particles and to fine-tune the chemical environment to improve the inhibitory effect on iron minerals. A total of 21 OutokumpuOK 50 (50 m3) mechanical agitation flotation cells and 4 366 m diameter flotation columns were added to the original flotation circuit. Concentrator optimization programs in value-added projects To address the issues of concentration, water treatment and electricity generation, the total budget is $ 1.05 billion. The equipment is put into operation in phases so as to minimize the impact on production and operation. This project was completed by the end of 2001.
