Macrophages play an important role in wound healing. In this study, the incision of polyvinyl alcohol sponge in the back of rats was used as a model to study the changes of wound macrophage function after 6 Gy whole body irradiation with 60Coγ ray and the effect of phenytoin sodium. The results showed that the number of macrophages not only decreased obviously but also phagocytosis of macrophages and the release of TNFα and IL-1 in wounds 3, 5 and 8 days after irradiation, The number of macrophages after the wound and its function have been significantly improved. It is indicated that the decrease of the number and function of macrophages in the early stage of wound healing is one of the important reasons for the delayed healing of the wounds. The effect of phenytoin on wound healing is related to the increase of the number and function of macrophages.
