In 1963, a few kilometers away from Paris, France, Carrefour became the first store of a well-known chain retailer in the future. After nearly 40 years of wind and rain, today it has become the second-ranked retailer in the global retail industry and the only retailer in the Fortune 500 to compete with Wal-Mart, the No. 2 U.S. retailer last year. Carrefour has so far established 3280 supermarkets in 26 countries and territories in Europe, Asia and the Americas, plus countless discount stores, convenience stores, etc., for a total of more than 8800 chain stores. Carrefour is France’s largest public company with a market capitalization of more than 490 billion U.S. dollars and employs 240,000 people. Its annual customer service volume is around 200 million. In 1995, Carrefour stationed in mainland China for the first time.
