“阴谋论”是一种方便使用、包罗万象的反衬性说法。所以,本文实际上并不旨在探讨幻觉和谎言等“阴谋论”命题内容,也不想以一种安全舒适的知识框架来思考那些描述、解释和安排世界事件的方式,那些应对偶然事件和生存烦扰的方式,以及那些无中生有,任意发挥的方式,并将它们归结为无理、疯狂、幼稚和愚蠢。作者着重探讨了实施辩术(广义的)与阴谋策划之间的联系。这种联系虽普遍存在,却很少有人探究。作者引入三个社会群体,即耶稣会士、犹太人和共济会成员。对他们而言,上述联系尤其明显。
