Cerebral malaria (CM), a type of central nervous system syndrome caused by Plasmodium falciparum infection, is characterized by high lethality, and even after effective treatment, it may leave sequelae such as persistent nervous system defects, especially in children patient. In this paper, the pathogenic effects of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) on CM and the destruction of blood-brain barrier in CM patients, the effect of VEGF released by mast cells on the control of malaria parasitemia and the protective effect of VEGF on CM were reviewed , And explored the potential of VEGF as a CM biomarker.
