English as a universal language, its importance is self-evident. At this stage basically all colleges and universities have set up English public courses, listening, speaking, reading and writing are the most basic four skills in this discipline. Traditional English listening teaching is to enable students to work in a relatively quiet environment, in accordance with the teaching content arranged by the teacher, through continuous contact to train students’ listening ability. Under normal circumstances, the teacher will play a detailed explanation of the listening content, the syntax of the key difficulties and some of the key words pronunciation point to tell students in the process of hearing according to their own habits to grasp. Although this traditional English listening teaching mode has its advantages, but the current actual teaching effect, the improvement of students’ listening level is not obvious, and some students have aversion to listening. Based on this, this paper mainly studies the problems existing when applying film teaching to English listening classes in higher vocational colleges, and gives some suggestions on the development of English listening film teaching in higher vocational colleges.
