The electron microscopy revealed that secretory granules contained in the secretory pituitary tumor cell paste appear to exist in the cytoplasm of non-secreting pituitary tumor cells. Although the secretory hormones of these granules are not known yet, their luminescence can be easily recognized based on the cell type originated from the tumor cells, the binding of tumor markers, and the like. NSE is a YY isoform of a glycolytic enzyme present in neurons and their axons. It is a candidate for the determination of a biochemical marker of secretory granules in nonsecreting pituitary tumors.
